Land Transport of Livestock Standards and Guidelines - Victoria

Description

You must comply with these standards if you are responsible for the care and management of livestock that are transported. Agents, transport operators, people on farms, depots, sale yards, feedlots and processing plants will also be required to comply with these standards. These standards apply to:

  • cattle
  • sheep
  • pigs
  • goats
  • poultry (broilers, layers, turkeys, ducks, geese)
  • ratites (emus and ostrich)
  • buffalo
  • deer
  • camels
  • alpacas
  • horses (including horses used for sport and recreation).

For the purpose of complying with this standard, transport of livestock commences when the animals are first deprived of feed and water prior to loading to the time that livestock have access to water at the completion of the journey.
