Marine Pilot Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to operate as a marine pilot. A marine pilot guides ships and vessels through dangerous or congested waters, such as ports, harbours or river mouths. Waters that require a pilot are declared by the State.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • hold a valid Certificate of Competency as Master Class 1 (or equivalent)
  • have been a master on a tug within the previous five years or attended as an observer for at least 10 hours on the navigation bridge of a tug operating within the relevant port/s
  • hold a valid medical certificate
  • complete the required training as determined by the agency.
