Meat and Seafood Transport Vehicle Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require a licence to operate a vehicle that transports meat or seafood for human consumption. This vehicle must be inspected prior being granted a licence.

A transport vehicle will not require this licence if it is used only for:

  • the transportation of pet food containing meat
  • transporting carcasses or meat from a retail butcher shop to a retail customer
  • carrying meat in cartons to cold stores or wharves (and is a refrigerated taut liner vehicle)
  • conveying meat within a meat processing facility
  • conveying meat that is not for sale.

You do not need this licence if your vehicle is currently licensed in another State or Territory.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • ensure that the vehicle complies with the construction requirements of the Australian Standard for the Hygienic Production and Transportation of Meat and Meat Products for Human Consumption (AS 4696:2007)
  • make arrangements for the vehicle to be inspected by PrimeSafe or an Accredited Certification Body to confirm the vehicle meets the construction requirements of the Australian Standard
  • pay any required fees.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must comply with current industry codes of practice and any conditions placed on the operation of the licence such as compliance with a food safety program. You will be provided with a label which must be displayed on your meat transport vehicle.

The agency must be advised in writing if any of the following changes are made:

  • the licensed operator of the facility changes, or the facility or vehicle ceases to operate or changes ownership
  • an administrator, receiver or liquidator is appointed.

This licence will expire on a day stated in the application. This day will be no more than 3 years from the date of issue.

The vehicle must be inspected within 30 days of receipt of application for a licence. If not, the application will be cancelled and the fee paid will be forfeited.
