Mineral Retention Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to retain the rights to a mineral resource. This licence is only valid for the specified land. A Mineral Retention Licence is for mineral resources that are not economically viable to mine at the present time.

This licence extends to the sea bed and its subsoil within the territorial limits of Victorian water.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you need to show that:

  • you are a fit and proper person to hold the licence
  • you have identified a mineral resource
  • you have an appropriate program of work
  • you are likely to be able to finance the proposed work and any rehabilitation.

Duration

This licence is valid for 10 years and may be renewed twice.

Information that is required in the application for a Mineral Retention Licence is as follows:

  • name and address of applicants
  • contact details
  • if the applicant is a company, then supply a list of the directors and a copy of registration of the company
  • area of land applied for
  • map of the land applied for in 1:25,000 scale
  • names and addresses of the owners and occupiers of that land
  • if that land is currently covered by any other Mineral licences
  • term of licence required
  • estimated annual expenditure for the first two years of the licence and estimated total expenditure for the entire term of the licence
  • evidence of financial capability
  • qualifications of all technical advisers
  • details of applicants experience in mining
  • details of proposed work program.
