Occupancy Permit - Pyrenees Shire Council - Victoria

Description

Occupancy permits are issued at the completion of building or renovating works, in relation to places of public entertainment, or for temporary structures, following an inspection of the works or site by a building surveyor.

The permit is only issued when a building is suitable for occupation from a safety perspective, and includes such matters as operational water supply, sanitary and cooking facilities, smoke/fire alarms, safety glass, alarm systems, handrails and balustrades, etc.

The permit is not a statement that all building work is necessarily complete, or that it complies with relevant legislation, and may be refused, amended or cancelled in specified circumstances.

The permit may apply to:

  • Building work for a new home (including units or apartments);
  • The whole or any part of a building, depending on the height and size of the structure;
  • A prescribed temporary structure, such as a prefabricated building, booth, tent or marquee; or
  • A building, structure or enclosed space for the purpose of providing public entertainment, such as seating stands, towers, sports grounds, stages, platforms, prefabricated buildings and temporary structures.

Please consult with the Council for further details and assistance.
