Onshore Petroleum Exploration Permit - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to explore for petroleum. The permit provides exclusive rights, and renewal rights, to explore for petroleum in a defined area. This area may not exceed 12,500 square kilometres in size.

Eligibility requirements

Applications for exploration permits are only available when the minister invites tenders for acreage that has been released. You will be required to submit a work program, which must set out: 

  • what activities will be carried out
  • when those activities will be carried out
  • the estimated expenditure of carrying out those activities.

Duration

Expires 5 years after the day on which it was registered. It can be renewed once for another 5 years with a reduction of size of at least 50%.
