Operate as an Introduction Agent - Victoria

Description

An introduction agent is a person or company in the business of offering an introduction, matchmaking or dating service that aims to match or provide individuals details for personal relationships or social outings.

Anyone over the age of 18 may operate as an introduction agent, but you will require permission if you are:

  • disqualified from acting as an introduction agent under the eligibility requirements
  • subject to a guardianship or administration order
  • a brothel licensee or approved manager.

As an introduction agent you will need to familiarise yourself with all your legal obligations under current legislation. If you fail to comply with these obligations, penalties may apply.

Publishers of advertisements who publish or make available details of persons who are seeking a personal or social relationship with one or more other persons do not act as introduction agencies. This means advertising in any newspaper, magazine, or similar document, television, or radio.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to act as an introduction agent without a permit, an individual must:

  • be over 18 years of age
  • be solvent
  • not found guilty of any serious offence within the last 5 years
  • not found guilty of any prohibited introduction agent actions within the last 5 years
  • not be a licensee or approved sex work service provider.

To be eligible to act as an introduction agent without a permit, a body corporate must:

  • have the directors comply with above individual requirements
  • not be an externally administered body corporate
  • not found guilty of any serious offence within the last 5 years
  • not found guilty of any prohibited introduction agent actions within the last 5 years.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

An introduction agency must not use or operate on a premises that is occupied by a sex work service provider.
