You will need this approval if you have built a heavy vehicle in accordance with a performance based standards (PBS) design approval and intend to operate it within the PBS. The PBS is a safety and infrastructure accreditation scheme which has implications for road network access. A heavy vehicle is a vehicle with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) or an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of more than 4.5 tonnes.
To gain this approval a PBS approved certifier will inspect the heavy vehicle to ensure that it was built according to the design specifications. If the certification inspection is satisfactory, an approval will be issued.
Your vehicle may have restricted or be denied road access in certain states. If you are notified of any restrictions placed on your vehicle, you will need a class 2 performance based standard access approval.
