You will require this permit if you intend to discharge fireworks on public land. You will need to notify the Council if you are discharging fireworks from private land. A WorkSafe permit is also required to purchase or discharge certain types of fireworks.
A licence to use fireworks authorises the following types of fireworks to be used, depending on the applicants qualifications or experience:
- group display fireworks
- aerial shells
- aerial salutes
- chinese firecrackers
- theatrical fireworks.
Only licensed pyrotechnicians are allowed to handle fireworks. A pyrotechnician must not use Chinese firecrackers, except on behalf of an incorporated association or community group and in connection with cultural, religious or traditional occasion or purpose connected with the association or group which requires the discharge of the fireworks.
