Permit to Light a Fire - Hume City Council - Victoria

Description

You will need this permit to burn any material or light a fire on land less than 4,000 square meters. This permit may be required for burning on public and private land.

Eligibility requirements

You must notify council of your intention to conduct burning between 2 and 24 hours before its intended commencement. You are also required to prepare a fire break around the area.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

A separate permit from State fire authorities may be required during high fire seasons.

Additional information

Note that it is not permitted to place or use an incinerator on private property.

It is also not permitted to burn any object or material so as to cause a nuisance to another person. Sucha as:

  • chemicals or pressurised cans
  • rubber or plastic
  • electronic equipment and recyclable materials (excluding timber);
  • petroleum, oil or oil-based products;
  • paint 
  • food waste, fish or other offensive or noxious matter.
