Description

You will require this permit if you intend to drive or move animals along a road or through a public area.

Except in case of emergency, animals may only be moved or driven during daylight hours.

Livestock includes, but is not limited to:

  • horses
  • cattle
  • swine
  • sheep
  • goats
  • deer.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible for this permit you will need a minimum of $10 000 000 public liability insurance. A bond is also required (as fixed by council), and can be paid in cash or by bank cheque.

Bonds will be refunded by council once activity has finalised (and, if, in the opinion of an authorised officer that the applicant has complied with the permit conditions), or if the permit is refused.

Please note that permits will not be issued if there are more than 6,000 sheep, ewes, wethers and rams, or 500 cattle, or 200 of any other livestock to be driven, or if the livestock will not be able to travel at least eight kilometres (in the case of sheep or other livestock) or ten kilometres each day (in the case of cattle) in one direction. Please consult Council for further conditions that are applicable to this permit.
