Permit to Move or Drive Animals / Livestock on Roads - Alpine Shire Council - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to drive or move animals along a road or through a public area.

Except in case of emergency, animals may only be moved or driven during daylight hours.

Livestock includes, but is not limited to:

  • horses
  • cattle
  • swine
  • sheep
  • goats
  • deer.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must ensure that:

  • The maximum number of livestock to be driven does not exceed 6000 sheep, 500 large cattle or 200 pigs, horses, goats or other livestock in total;
  • Appropriate signage is in place;
  • Livestock camped over night will be enclosed and not on areas of high conservation value;
  • Livestock are fit and healthy and free from disease and parasites;
  • You hold public liability insurance to at least $5 million;
  • Livestock are supervised at all times;
  • You comply with any other written or verbal instructions from council;
  • Give notice within 48 hours to land owners of the intended movement of livestock along that route.

You must lodge your application with council at least 5 days before the undertaking of the proposed activity in a form approved by Council and accompanied by the required fee and a bond of $1,000.
