Permit to Operate a Rodeo School - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to operate a rodeo school in Victoria. A rodeo school is a premises used for the training or schooling of persons in rodeo. Rodeos are events that use cattle and horses for exhibitions and competitions in:

  • bronco riding
  • bareback bronco riding
  • bull riding
  • steer riding
  • roping
  • steer wrestling
  • team roping
  • buck jumping
  • rough-riding
  • animal dogging.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • be accredited by an approved rodeo organisation
  • nominate a veterinary practitioner who will attend the rodeo school
  • specify the name of an organisation approved by the Minister by which you are accredited
  • nominate an instructor or instructors for each class of instruction, nominate an instructor-in-charge, and provide the name of the approved rodeo organisation that has accredited each instructor
  • ensure the animals, facilities and conditions conform to the prescribed minimum requirements
  • pay any required fees.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Ongoing requirements include:

  • a veterinary practitioner must attend when any rodeo school is in progress
  • providing proper and sufficient food, water and shelter for all animals involved
  • ensuring the arena, chute and yard fencing can contain the animals, is clearly visible and will not cause injury to the animals
  • ensuring animals are not drugged or hypnotised.
