You may need a permit if you intend to ride, guide other riders, lead or train an animal on council land for commercial, racing or recreational purposes. Council land includes

  • beaches
  • nature strips
  • residential areas
  • foreshore reserves
  • municipal reserves
  • recreation grounds.

A permit is generally not required for riding in areas that are signposted as suitable for riding or trail riding.
