Pest Animal Permit - Victoria

Description

You will need this permit to keep, sell, import, or release a pest animal in Victoria. This does not apply to a pest animal that is kept for medical, veterinary or biological research purposes, under the authority of a licence issued under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986.

Pest animals are non-native (introduced) species that are or could become established in the wild, and threaten the environment, human health or farms. The Agency may declare a particular species of animal to be a pest animal if it poses a threat to the environment or health.

Animals that have been declared to be pest animals include:

  • Asian black-spined toad
  • Cane toad
  • European hare
  • Goat (feral or wild only)
  • European rabbit (feral or wild only)
  • Red fox
  • Smooth newt
  • Wild dog or dingo-dog hybrid (feral or wild only).

  • keeping the animals securely
  • identifying the animals by implant or branding
  • limits on the number of animals you may bring into Victoria, keep, sell or release.
