Practice Note 2008-13 Installation of Fire Safety Systems in Residential Buildings - Victoria

You will be required to comply with these requirements if you are the owner of an accommodation building constructed, or for which a building approval or building permit was granted, prior to 1 August 1997.

This Practice Note explains the regulatory requirements for the installation of hard-wired smoke alarms or detection systems and automatic sprinkler systems in some existing buildings.

It gives examples of installation plans, and describes the types of systems to be installed, and the class of building requiring the installation, such as certain older Class 9a residential care or share accommodation buildings and Class 1b or 3 buildings.

Please consult the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required by your business.
