Pre-Retail Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence to supply liquor. This applies to liquor producers, importers and wholesalers.

A pre-retail licence authorises you to:

  • supply liquor to any liquor licence holder
  • supply liquor to persons authorised to sell or supply liquor interstate for consumption outside Victoria
  • supply liquor to liquor licence holders for the purposes of export.

No trading hour restrictions apply. Under this licence, the wholesale supply of liquor is permitted at any time or place. This licence does not authorise retail sale of liquor or sale to members of the public who are not liquor licensees.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be a suitable person to run the business
  • have adequate knowledge of liquor licensing law
  • be at least 18 years old (if applying as an individual)
  • not be disqualified from holding a licence or BYO permit under the Act.
  • pay the required fees.

You must make an application to the agency by completing the application kit.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Once granted any variation, relocation, transfer or surrender of a Pre-Retail Licence must be approved or endorsed by the Director of Liquor Licensing.

Conditions may be imposed upon this licence by the Agency. Please review the Application Kit or contact the responsible agency for further details.

You must keep a record of sales and purchases of liquor and keep each record for a period of five years.

Please submit your completed application together with all specified accompanying documentation referred to in the application kit directly with the Agency. Once an application is received, and relevant checks and inquiries completed, a decision will be made by the Director of Liquor Licensing to either grant or refuse the application.

In most cases the Director will impose conditions upon the licence. The time taken to process an application will vary according to individual circumstances.
