Private Security Business Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to operate a security business. A security business provides the services of people licensed to perform one or more of the following activities:

  • investigator
  • bodyguard
  • crowd controller
  • security guard (and sub-activities)
  • private security trainer
  • security equipment installer
  • security adviser.

Each of the above activities has a range of different sub-categories, and licences vary according to which services you have applied for. You may operate your business as a sole trader, or through a partnership or corporate business structure.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must be:

  • 18 years or over
  • a resident of Australia or be the holder of a current visa with working rights
  • a fit and proper person (this includes not having any medical condition or history with police that would hinder your employment within the industry).

You must have successfully completed the approved training requirement for all activities that you wish to be licensed for. View the register of approved private security Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) here.
