Private Security Individual Registration - Victoria

Description

You will require this registration if you intend to operate as a private security professional that offers the following services:

  • security adviser (employed or retained to provide advice in relation to security equipment or security methods or principles)
  • security equipment installer (employed or retained to install, repair, service or maintain security equipment).

Security equipment includes:

  • security camera or audio systems
  • security audio or visual recording systems
  • security alarms and alarm monitoring systems
  • safes and vaults
  • security intrusion detectors including motion, infra-red, microwave or contact detectors
  • electric, electro-mechanical, magnetic, or biometric access control devices, but not including stock, inventory or product loss prevention monitoring devices.

Registration authorises you to access and collect sensitive information about the personal and security arrangements of your clients.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a fit and proper person
  • undergo a National Police Check
  • not be insolvent or under administration
  • not have been declared bankrupt within the preceding 5 years
  • not have been convicted of an indictable offence within the preceding 10 years
  • not have been convicted with an offence that makes you an unsuitable person to hold a private security registration (such as trafficking drugs or assaults)
  • provide all required information
  • meet probity requirements
  • pay the prescribed fees.

The registration system focuses on probity and character requirements. The probity requirements for registration involve all applicants and associated parties undergoing a criminal history check and ongoing monitoring throughout the lifetime of their registration. Persons with indictable offences may be ineligible to obtain registration.

Duration

Up to 3 years, unless suspended or cancelled.
