You will be required to have a Property Identification Code (PIC) if you graze livestock on your property or have a livestock business such as a sale yard, abattoir or stock agent. Livestock includes cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, llamas, deer, horses and camel as well as having more than fifty poultry. If you are a horse owner, having agisted horses, you must also have a PIC.
Your PIC is used in relation to the National Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS) to monitor the movement and health of livestock to ensure that disease and health risks are being avoided. All livestock owners are required to register their animals with the NLIS and their PIC to ensure they are in compliance with the NLIS.
