You will be required to register any properties you own where livestock is to be kept. The activities that are linked to the use of a Property Identification Code (PIC) include:
- grazing of livestock
- selling or buying livestock
- transporting livestock
- 0.5 or more hectares of grapevines
- twenty or more chestnut trees
- and other activities.
You will need to apply for a PIC if you keep:
- more than one hundred poultry
- more than ten emus or ostriches.
Your PIC is used relating to the National Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS) to monitor the movement and health of livestock to ensure that disease and health risks are being avoided. All livestock owners are required to register their animals with the NLIS and their PIC to ensure they are in compliance with the NLIS.
Please consult the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
