Radiation Facility Construction Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need to apply for this licence if you intend to construct or change a radiation facility. A radiation facility is a premises used to house, possess, store or use any high consequence sealed sources or high consequence group of sealed sources.

A sealed source is radioactive material that is either permanently sealed in a capsule or closely bound and in solid form. A high consequence sealed source is either a category 1, 2 or 3 sealed source.

This licence permits the holder to:

  • construct a radiation facility on land that they own or occupy
  • permit or allow another person to construct a radiation facility on land that they own or occupy
  • change the use of land that they own or occupy to use for a radiation facility
  • change the use of a building that they own or occupy to use as a radiation facility.

After construction of your facility has finished, you will need to obtain a management licence before you can acquire any radiation sources. A radiation source means radioactive material, radiation apparatus or a sealed source apparatus.
