You will require this registration if you intend to provide cadastral, or land surveying services in Victoria. Cadastral surveying involves interpreting and advising on boundary locations and the status of land ownership, as well as the physical recording of land boundary information for use on plans and maps.
It is illegal to use the title of licensed surveyor unless you are registered. Only licensed surveyors can:
- carry out cadastral surveys
- certify the accuracy of a cadastral survey
- sign or initial a plan of a cadastral survey
- place a survey peg or survey mark in land.
Cadastral surveys are generally performed to subdivide land into parcels for ownership under a land title and to re-establish boundaries of previously surveyed properties to determine the physical extent of ownership or to facilitate the transfer of the property title.
