Registration / Notification of a Temporary or Mobile Food Premises - Banyule City Council - Victoria

Description

You will need this registration or notification if you intend to operate a temporary or mobile food premises, including on a one-off basis.

Temporary and mobile food premises can include:

  • market or festival stalls, fetes, charity fundraisers, or a kitchen not owned or leased by you such as a sporting club canteen or a school tuckshop
  • vehicles, such as food vans, caravans, trucks or trailers.

There are three classes of temporary or mobile food premises:

  • class 2 and 3 (registration is required)
  • class 4 (notification is required)

Please note, you must lodge a statement of trade (SOT) to let all relevant councils know where and when you will be trading in their districts. Additional permits may be required, for example, a permit to conduct trading in a public place.

Temporary food premises fees for commercial operators:

  • Class 1 premises - $316.00
  • Class 2 Premises: $460.00
  • Class 3 and 3A premises: $316.00.

Class 4 premises require only notification and have no fees attached.

If the operator requests registration for less than a year to operate on a short-term basis, the fee will be 25% of the classification fee.    

Mobile premises fees for commercial operators:

  • Class 1 and 2 premises - 3rd party audited: $624.00
  • Class 2 premises: $880.00
  • Class 3 and 3A premises: $590.00.

Class 4 premises only require notification and have no fees attached.


Mobile premises fees for community group operators:

  • Class 1 and 2 premises - 3rd party audited: $182.00
  • Class 2 premises: $260.00
  • Class 3 and 3A premises: $232.00.

Class 4 premises only require notification and have no fees attached.

Temporary food premises fees for community group operators:

  • Class 1 premises - $95.00
  • Class 2 premises -  $136.00
  • Class 3 premises - $90.00.

Class 4 premises only require notification and have no fees attached.

The steps to take before you start running a temporary or mobile food premises are:

  • register your food premises (or notify) with local council under the statewide single registration system (FoodTrader)
  • lodge a Statement of Trade (SOT) with the councils in whose areas you are planning to trade
  • check with your local council to see which other permits you may need before you start trading.
