You will require this registration if you intend to prepare, handle or sell food from a vehicle (which means you will operate a food business) in any commercial, charitable or community circumstance, including on a one-off basis.
Food includes any substance, thing, ingredient, additive, chewing gum, product or drink intended for human consumption (whether it is live, raw, prepared or partly prepared but excluding a therapeutic good) and may also include live animals and plants.
Vehicle means any means of transport, whether self-propelled or not, and whether used on land, sea or in the air but does not include a food transport vehicle other than dairy, seafood or meat.
Registration should be obtained from the Council for the area where the vehicle is normally garaged. If you intend to operate the vehicle in other Council areas you should also contact the relevant Council for that area to ascertain any additional requirements.
Under the Food Act all food premises are classified by their local council according to their highest risk activity.
