You will require this registration if you are the owner of a cat or dog that is over three months old.
This registration also covers all types of dogs (including dangerous dogs) that are used for security (guard dogs) or similar uses.
A dog is considered to be a dangerous dog if either:
- the dog is kept as a guard dog for the purpose of guarding non-residential premises
- the dog has been trained to attack or bite a person.
You are required to advise a person you are selling a dog to if it has been registered as 'dangerous'. Registration is likely to be subject to strict conditions, including
conditions concerning the enclosure and fence used to contain the dog.
