Registration of Prescribed Accommodation - Wellington Shire Council - Victoria

Description

You will require this registration if you intend to operate any of the following types of accommodation business:

  • hotels and motels
  • hostels
  • student dormitories
  • holiday camps
  • rooming houses
  • residential accommodation
  • labour hire accommodation.

Prescribed accommodation providers are required to meet hygiene, maintenance and other standards and requirements to minimise public health risks that may arise from shared use of facilities, high turnover of occupants and / or overcrowding.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • apply to the local council in which the accommodation is located
  • include all the required documentation and information
  • submit a 1:100 scale plan of the premises, showing the proposed use of each room

Planning approval to conduct the business may also be necessary in some circumstances.

Duration

Registration remains in force until 31 December each year or for the period of 12 months from the date of registration if so specified by the local Council. Temporary registration may be granted for a period of less than 12 months.
