You will require this registration of premises if you intend to conduct a business of one of the following categories:
- Hairdressing;
- Beauty therapies including manicures, electrolysis and waxing;
- Skin penetration (e.g. ear piercing and acupuncture);
- Tattooing; or
- A class of business activity that poses a risk to public health (e.g. alternative and physical therapies, solariums).
There are a number of exempt businesses from this registration, including an acupuncturist registered with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Victoria (documentary evidence to be provided to Local Council), medical practitioner, dentist, registered nurse, podiatrist, pathologist, and pathology service.
New requirements apply from 1/1/2010 under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
