Rental housing agencies are not-for-profit organisations that provides affordable housing for low-income people. There are two categories of registration:
- housing association
- housing provider.
Housing associations must be companies limited by shares or guarantee, while housing providers can be companies, incorporated associations or co-operatives. Only registered agencies may manage properties on behalf of the Director of Housing or other government agencies. Registered agencies may also be able to access government funding to develop affordable housing.
The agency will consider the registration criteria when determining which category is more appropriate for your rental housing agency.
