Rooming House Operator's Licence - Victoria


You will need this licence to operate a rooming house within Victoria, or to continue running an existing rooming house that has not been previously registered.

A rooming house is a property that:

  • has one or more rooms available
  • is available for four or more people to occupy
  • has tenants that reside in the property and pay rent.

Existing rooming house operators must apply for a licence. Rooming house managers are not required to hold a licence.

Each applicant only needs one licence to operate any number of rooming houses.

Interstate workers will need to notify the Business Licensing Authority (BLA) before they can rely on Automatic Mutual Recognition to act as a Rooming House Operator.
