Temporary Permit - Victoria

Description

You will need this permit if you live outside Victoria and intend to work as a private security operator in Victoria for a special event. An interstate visitor may apply for a permit to act as a:

  • investigator
  • bodyguard
  • crowd controller
  • security guard.

A visitor from overseas may only apply for a permit to act as a bodyguard. A special event is defined as an event of social, cultural, sporting, political or economic significance to Victoria that takes place for a specific period of time.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must:

  • be licensed or registered to carry on the relevant security activities in another state or territory
  • be recognised by Victoria Police as a suitable person to carry on the security activities (if no licence or registration is required in your home state or territory)
  • provide any information and documentation requested by the Agency.

For an overseas applicant to be eligible for this permit, you must either:

  • be licensed or registered to act as a bodyguard in your country of residence
  • be recognised by Victoria Police as a suitable person to carry on the security activities (if no licence or registration is required in your country of residence).

Duration

Permits are temporary, cannot be renewed and are issued only for the duration of a special event.
