Variation to Environment Management Plan - City of Melbourne - Victoria

You can apply to vary the Environment Management Plan (EMP) which applies to your premises if you intend to undertake business activities which the current version of the EMP does not allow.

EMPs are designed to promote the responsible management of the environment.

The activities which may require you to vary the EMP include:

  • waste management and disposal
  • open fires
  • creating noise
  • creating strong odours and fumes.

Eligibility requirements

In determining whether to grant a variation to the Environment Management Plan, the council may take into account the following:

  • the reasons given for making the application
  • any reports or submissions on the application by an authorised officer

  • the nature of the activities conducted on the premises
  • the environment of the neighbourhood within which the premises are located
  • any other related matter the Council considers relevant.
