1080 Poison Manufacture and Supply Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this authorisation if you intend to manufacture or supply 1080 poison for pest animal baits.

Manufacturers of 1080 pest animal baits may supply the baits to others such as retailers or end users, depending on the type of manufacturing licence held.

1080 poisons contain the compound sodium fluoro-acetate, included in the Schedule 7 poisons list. Manufacturers and suppliers must obtain a licence from Department of Health before they can legally purchase 1080 poison or engage in manufacture and sale or supply, or sale or supply, of 1080 pest animal baits.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must either:

  • be registered as a manufacturer by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (AVPMA) for manufacturing 1080 aqueous solution
  • hold a Commercial Operator Licence with vermin destroyer endorsement, and have completed the AgSafe Guardian online course 'Supply of Perishable 1080 Bait Products (using 1080 Aqueous Solution)' and the course 'Preparation of Perishable 1080 Pest Animal Bait Products (using 1080 Aqueous Solution)'.

You must also:

  • nominate a Responsible Person
  • allow an inspection of the premises
  • maintain a poisons control plan
  • undertake the required training course

Requirements may vary depending on your current manufacturing licence status.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Ongoing requirements include:

  • providing information and records as required by the agency
  • maintaining a poison control plan
  • complying with the Victorian Code of Practice for the Preparation of Perishable 1080 Pest Animal Bait Products (using 1080 Aqueous Solution).
