Code of Practice for the Welfare of Wildlife During Rehabilitation - Victoria

Description

You will be required to comply with this code if you intend to keep wildlife on your premises while it is being rehabilitated. The purpose of this code is to ensure the welfare of animals undergoing all stages of wildlife rehabilitation. This includes caring for injured, sick, or orphaned native animals and providing access to veterinary assessment and treatment where required, then nursing care and support, with the goal of restoring them to their natural condition and habitat.

The code provides guidance for carers on a range of requirements. These include:

  • assessments
  • care
  • shelters and accommodation
  • food and water
  • health and well-being
  • handling
  • release.
