Registration of a Cathodic Protection System - Victoria

Description

You will require this registration if you wish to operate a cathodic protection system. A cathodic protection system is a system that is designed to use direct electric current to protect metallic structures from corrosion. An example of this is railways.

Cathodic protection systems act to prevent many metallic structures from rusting through use of sacrificial anodes. This may be used on many metallic bodies including:

  • boats
  • railways
  • steel supports.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility Requirements

An application for registration of a cathodic protection system must:

  • be in writing and include the name and address of the owner of the cathodic protection
  • indicate the proposed operating current of the cathodic protection system
  • be accompanied by a map showing the proposed location of the cathodic protection system, the metallic structure it is intended to protect and all metallic structures likely to be affected by the system and drawings detailing the cathodic protection system
  • pay the relevant registration fee.

Ongoing Eligibility Requirements

Compliance with the current codes and standards of use will be required. Current details of the registration must be maintained on the register.

Duration

Ten years, unless revoked sooner.
