Registration of Building Practitioners - Draftsperson - Victoria

Description

You will need this registration if you intend to be a draftsperson. Draftspeople are responsible for preparing plans for building work or preparing documentation relating to building permits or permit applications.

There are three classes of draftsperson registration that you can apply for:

  • Building Design (Architectural)
  • Building Design (Interior)
  • Building Design (Services).

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To obtain a certificate of registration as a draftsperson, you must:

  • hold the required qualifications and period of practical experience
  • satisfy the agency that you are of good character and fit to work as a draftsperson
  • hold, at least, the minimum compliant insurance policy
  • provide a signed authorisation allowing the Agency to conduct a National Police Certificate check.

You may be required to sit a VBA exam. The Agency will contact you to schedule the exam and will advise the exam fee.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will be required to pay the annual renewal fee. The Agency may also require you to prove your insurance cover during the renewal process.
