Description

To become a cat breeder, you must apply for a permit from your local council. If you intend to give away or sell a cat, you will need to ensure the cat is microchipped and sterilised prior to the transfer of ownership.

To be eligible for this approval, you must:

  • be over 18 years old
  • have sufficient facilities, and suitable premises, to breed cats in a safe and ethical way
  • be a fit and proper person to breed cats and not be convicted of certain offences under animal legislation
  • be a current member of a prescribed cat organisation.
