Approval to Keep Poultry, Pigeons and Other Birds - City of Cockburn - Western Australia

Description

You may require this approval if you intend to keep poultry, pigeons or other birds on your property. Poultry includes fowls, peafowls, turkeys, geese and ducks.

Whether this approval is required may vary according to the zoning of your property. Approval is often required in land zoned as residential. Your Council may also prohibit the keeping of certain kinds of birds in certain areas. Limitations may also apply to the number of birds that you are allowed to keep on your property.

You may be required to keep your poultry in a structure or enclosure that meets Council specifications.

Eligibility requirements

Under Local Laws:

  • up to 12 hens or ducks may be kept on a single property in a residential area.
  • up to 25 poultry may be kept on land in the resource zone
  • up to 50 poultry may be kept on land zoned as rural.

Roosters, turkeys, geese, peacocks and peahens are not permitted, unless approved by an authorised person.
