Approval to Keep Poultry, Pigeons and Other Birds - City of Gosnells - Western Australia

Description

You may need this approval if you intend to keep poultry, pigeons or other birds on your property. Poultry includes fowls, peafowls, turkeys, geese and ducks.

Whether this approval is required may vary according to the zoning of your property. Approval is often required in land zoned as residential. Your council may also prohibit the keeping of certain kinds of birds in certain areas. Limitations may also apply to the number of birds that you are allowed to keep on your property.

Eligibility requirements

Conditions for keeping poultry:

  • no poultry shall be kept less than 9 metres from a residential building or within 15 metres of a public street or place.
  • all poultry shall be housed in a secure structure, which needs to be maintained to a clean condition.

Conditions for keeping pigeons:

  • all pigeons shall be kept in a properly constructed loft, except where registered homing pigeons are freed for exercise.
  • no pigeon shall be kept less than 9 metres from a residential building or within 15 metres of a public street or place.
