Approval to Keep Poultry, Pigeons and Other Birds - Shire of Katanning - Western Australia

Description

You may require this approval if you intend to keep poultry, pigeons or other birds on your property. Poultry includes fowls, peafowls, turkeys, geese and ducks.

Whether this approval is required may vary according to the zoning of your property. Approval is often required in land zoned as residential. Your Council may also prohibit the keeping of certain kinds of birds in certain areas. Limitations may also apply to the number of birds that you are allowed to keep on your property.

You may be required to keep your poultry in a structure or enclosure that meets Council specifications.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must:

  • Establish that no poultry will be able to approach with 15 meters of a dwelling house, public building or premises where people are employed or where food is stored;
  • Provide evidence that the poultry will be kept in a properly constructed and securely fastened structure or enclosure; and
  • Ensure that the enclosures are maintained in a condition satisfactory to the Environmental Health Officer.
