You may need to comply with this standard to manufacture a smoke detector containing Americium 241. A smoke detector is a device incorporated into a smoke alarm that responds to combustion products capable of affecting currents of ionisation within that device.
The radioactive substance Americium 241 is exempted from the provisions in legislation provided that it is used in a smoke detector which either complies with the requirements of this standard or Australian Standard AS 3786-1993.
