You may be required to comply with this Standard if you intend to design or manufacture a battery-operated vehicle where flammable gases or vapours are present.
This Standard applies to battery-operated vehicles (for example trucks and tractors) which incorporate a storage battery of the lead-acid type as the source of power, which may be all-electric or electrohydraulic in operation, and which may be used where flammable gases or vapours may be present in the atmosphere.
This Standard sets out requirements for the electrical, mechanical or hydraulic components which may be capable of producing arcs, sparks, or hot surfaces that will present a fire or explosion hazard in the presence of flammable gases or vapours. While compliance with this standard is not mandatory, it may be used to demonstrate that you have complied with your legal obligations.
Please consult the Agency Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
