Bookmaker's Licence - Western Australia

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to operate as a bookmaker. Bookmakers provide betting services to the public at racecourses or sporting grounds.

If you want to also conduct internet or telephone betting, you will need to add an endorsement to your licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a fit and proper person
  • not be an undischarged bankrupt
  • have knowledge of the business of bookmaking and your obligations as a bookmaker (with regard to partnerships and body corporates, at least one member of the partnership or at least one director of the body corporate must meet this requirement)
  • not be a member of a partnership or occupy a position of authority with a body corporate that holds a bookmakers' licence.

Body corporate applicants must also meet the following requirements. The body corporate must:

  • have a place of business or carry on business within Western Australia
  • have proper and adequate provisions for disclosure of the affairs of the body corporate to the agency
  • ensure the memorandum and articles of association of the body corporate are to be acceptable to the agency and contain a provision that the agency be notified of any intention to amend the memorandum or articles and be provided with a copy of any proposed resolution or other form of proposal
  • not to trade under a name that has not been approved
  • not to be a trustee of a discretionary trust.
