You may need this registration if you intend to carry out building engineering work in the following areas:

  • structural engineering
  • fire safety and fire systems engineering
  • mechanical engineering
  • civil engineering.

Engineering work includes professional or technical engineering that involves independent and unsupervised design, construction or production activities related to buildings or incidental structures.

There is a 2-year transitional period ending on 30 June 2026 for structural engineering and fire safety systems engineering, during which unregistered people may continue to undertake structural and fire safety systems engineering work. The transitional period for mechanical and civil engineering will also last 2 years beginning 1 July 2025.
