Club / Restricted Club Liquor Licence - Western Australia

Description

You will need this licence if you operate a club and intend to sell and supply liquor to members of the club and guests. A club consists of a body or group of persons who join together to further some sporting, social, political, literary or other legitimate aim.

There are two types of licence - general and restricted. Both licences allow you to sell liquor on your premises to your members and guests. However, restricted licenses have two restrictions:

  • limited operating hours
  • packaged liquor cannot be sold.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be an incorporated society, club, institution or other body of persons
  • ensure each person who occupies a position of authority in the club is a fit and proper person
  • ensure that the club has been well managed for a period of at least twelve months
  • ensure your club's rules are appropriate for the licence
  • ensure each person interested in your application or business or your profits or proceeds is a fit and proper person
  • ensure your premises will not cause undue offence, annoyance, disturbance or inconvenience to people who live, work or travel through the vicinity of your proposed premises
  • have the relevant planning and health certifications for your premises.

Unincorporated clubs to which schedule 2 of the Act applies or otherwise is of such a size or nature that it is appropriate for the body to be licensed may apply for this licence, subject to the licence being held by a trustee (who must be at least 18 years old and a fit and proper person).

Duration

Indefinite subject to retaining the same premises and paying the annual licence fee.
