Code of Practice - Prevention and Management of Blast Generated NOx Gases in Surface Blasting - Western Australia

Description

You may need to comply with this code if you intend to use explosives that may create hazards due to post-blast gases.

These guidelines are in place to assist with the safe use of explosives in situations where a specific additional hazard may arise due to the generation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) within the post-blast gases. These oxides are generally regarded as products arising from imperfect decomposition of ammonium nitrate explosives during detonation. The guidelines inform explosives users of the hazards and causes of NOx gases and provide possible measures to eliminate or minimise NOx generation or the management of NOx incidences.
