Development approval is required for most types of development, including:
- any demolition, erection, construction, alteration of or addition to a building or structure
- changes of use of land or buildings
- erection of signage
- subdivision of land.
Your local council will administer their own local planning scheme, which set out zoning, development standards and assessment criteria. Depending on the scope of the proposed development, additional requirements for regulated areas such as listed heritage or the environment may apply.
