You will need this licence if you intend to generate, transmit, distribute, or sell electricity in Western Australia.
Licences are available in four categories:
- generation (construct or operate generating works)
- transmission (construct or operate transmission systems)
- distribution (construct or operate distribution systems)
- retail (to sell electricity to customers).
If you are located outside the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), you will need to apply for an integrated regional licence in the category relevant to your intended activities.
If you intend to sell electricity to customers through a solar power purchase agreement (SPPA), you need to hold an electricity retail licence.
You will not need a retail licence if you are selling electricity only to retailers and not to end use customers.
You may not need a licence if the relevant generating works, transmission or distribution system is used for the supply of electricity solely for your own consumption, or the consumption of residents of your caravan park.
