Fireworks Event Permit - Western Australia

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to put on a fireworks display. This permit authorises you to conduct displays at private, community or ceremonial events, such as shows, fetes, carnivals or cultural, religious or sporting events.

If you intend to put on a ceremonial event where only cracker chains are used, you will only need to lodge a ceremonial fireworks notice.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • be a licensed fireworks contractor
  • provide a signed fireworks event notice to the police, emergency services, the local council of the district in which the event will occur, and the airport manager (if the event will be within 5km of an airport's boundary)
  • provide a copy of the fireworks event notice, along with written confirmation from each recipient of the notice, and any response from the recipients
  • provide a site plan of the place where you will hold your fireworks display
  • hold public liability insurance of at least $5 million
  • have permission from the person responsible for the property where your event is to be conducted.

For ceremonial firework events, you must:

  • be a licensed fireworks operator or pyrotechnics (special use) licence
  • lodge a ceremonial fireworks notice with WA Police and the relevant local government authority 7 days prior to the event.
