Fish Processor's Licence - Western Australia


You will require this licence if you intend to process fish for a commercial purpose. A licence is not required if you intend to:

  • process fish on a boat
  • process fish that have been harvested on site in accordance with an aquaculture licence
  • process fish to be served as meals or sold by retail to the public at the place of processing.

Those exceptions do not apply to rock lobsters, prawns or scallops.

Your licence will authorise you to process fish which have been purchased from the holder of a commercial fishing or aquaculture licence. Your licence will not authorise you to process marron, unless the marron are sold by the holder of an aquaculture licence in accordance with the regulations.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be considered a fit and proper person
  • have obtained a permit to construct or establish your fish processing facilities
  • provide details as required by the board, including information on location and intended activities
  • satisfy the Agency that it is in the better interests of the fishing industry to grant the licence.
