You will need this licence if you intend to operate a fishing tour for commercial purposes in a tour management zone. A fishing tour is a tour designed to provide an opportunity for recreational fishing.
Your licence will specify which of the four tour management zones you arte authorised to operate in the following regions:
- Pilbara / Kimberley
- Gascoyne
- West Coast
- South Coast.
There are two kinds of fishing tour licences:
- an unrestricted fishing tour licence
- restricted fishing tour licence.
An unrestricted fishing tour licence authorises charter boat-based fishing activities where fish can be taken home at the end of the tour. The number of unrestricted fishing tour licences granted is limited. New unrestricted licences are approved only in exceptional circumstances.
A restricted fishing tour licence authorises mainly eco-type activities, such as snorkelling or scuba diving, with limited fishing activity allowing only for fish to be caught and eaten as a meal during the course of the tour. Tour participants are not allowed to take captured fish home with them at the end of the tour.
